In 2014, two residence of the drop-in centre, Bill & Ryan, identified the wall as being a very unsafe place and thought a mural would help offer a lacking sense of positivity to the space. They spoke with Hannah Poon about the idea and Hannah recruited me to be the facilitating artist for the project. The imagery was all conceived by Bill & Ryan. They had no experience in painting a mural, so that was my room. We taped out the design and created spaces within the design for community organizations to fill the spaces with their own images. In the end, we had over 100 people help paint the mural. Various community members who normally wouldn’t work together were seen working towards a mutual goal of creating a more inclusive space.
