I like to joke that if I know what I was getting into with this project, I most likely would have turned it down. The community and Kim Walker came to me with the intention of creating Canada’s longest mural, about 3 football fields long, and have the community members come and paint all of it. Their question to me was “is it possible, and how?’. My answer is always yes, it is possible. The community consultation was so in-depth that I realized they wanted everything. For this reason I chose to do the history of Calgary. With that, I also wanted to include sub-culture history. The research and consultation lasted 3 months before I designed the whole mural small scale, drew the design on the fence, then invited the community to paint it over 3 days. Over 900 community members came out to be part of the project.
