New Works

I have been visiting Guanajuato every year for the past several years and when I am away, I miss it. The process of painting this work has allowed me to mentally travel back to Mexico when I am in Canada. It was too ambitious to paint start to finish, so I world work on it periodically over 3 years.

My life partner is a healthcare worker. I have been witness to the daily struggles her and her fellow healthcare workers have been dealing with since the beginning of the pandemic. My objective was to visually describe her daily circumstances through composition, material application, value, and colour.

As with much of my pandemic work, this large scale painting is pure nostalgia for me; an opportunity to mentally travel back to Mexico city where spaces are local lit. The ambiguity of representation is to emulate the feeling of memory.

Another pandemic nostalgia work. With this one, I was drawn to the social gathering and the fluidity of shared public space.
