Urban sketching has quickly become a tangible alternative to driving out to the country to work in the environment. Artists and students of art are being drawn to the vast possibilities urban sketching provides in shaping ones perspective on their environment.

You are invited to learn from artist and educator Mark Vazquez-Mackay about the  techniques and practices specific to Urban sketching. All summer classes will be taught at specific sights around Calgary’s inner city and will have corresponding lessons specific to the challenges of the given location.

Mark has been leading students in the practice of absorbing ones environment for much of his career. In recent years, he has been leading travel groups to draw/paint in Mexico. He has an extensive practice of drawing, painting, and teaching to a range of demographics with a variety of approaches.

Our summer schedule offers flexibility of how many classes you would like to join. A portable easel and seat will be provided; you will need to bring a sketchbook and materials specific to the lesson. Material lists will be available upon registration.

All levels of experience are welcome
